What are the key elements of ftr?
There are two main ingredients to the ftr package, the vehicle and the 'TRACK'. First will operate the ftr services using brand new vehicles manufactured by the Wright Group. Local authorities such as Leeds City Council deliver the ftr 'TRACK'. Leeds City Council has invested in new stopping arrangements and highway improvements to accommodate the ftr, as well as priorities like the new bus lane on Wellington Road. In addition Metro has provided the new stops and shelters and the Your Next Bus information, which sends timetable information direct to your mobile or your computer.
What is happening to stops and shelters on the ftr route? Stops and shelters on the ftr route are benefiting from a substantial refresh with some stops being equipped with electronic departure screens
How do traffic light priority systems work? A key element of the ftr package is the Metro Your Next Bus system. Each ftr vehicle is fitted with satellite tracking technology that is linked to a central computer. The computer can tell where the ftr vehicle should be and in conjunction with the Leeds City Council SPRUCE system it will give traffic light priority to ftr vehicles. Your Next Bus also gives First an overview of where all the ftr vehicles are at any given time. It also drives the Real Time Passenger Information technology that will give updated information to customers waiting at some ftr stops along the route. Customers are also able to use their mobile phones to check when the next ftr is due at their stop, again thanks to the Metro Your Next Bus system.
